DSS, FG urged to probe alleged IPOB training camp in Lagos

The Inspector General of Police, IG, Tunde Disu and the Director General, Department for State Security, [DSS] have been urged to probe the alleged existence of training camp of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, [IPOB] also known as "Unknown Gunmen" in Lagos State.

The revelation about the existence of the camp came through Court investigations of a Nigerian in the United States this week.

In a statement on Friday, Apapo O'odua Koya, [AOKOYA] said the Federal Government and the South West States should be deeply concerned about allegations that Unknown Gunmen run a training camp in the outskirts of Lagos warning that cold attitude towards mass unchecked migration of every dick and Harry to the South West remains a major threat.

The United States President, Donald Trump recently petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to deny asylum to one Izuchukwu Ozurumba who claimed he was a  cook for a militant separatist group known as the "Unknown Gunmen."

The said he escaped from the camp located in the outskirts of Lagos after working their as a cook for six months without pay.

He therefore fled Nigeria for fear that IPOB armed groups might kill him for fear he would expose the location of the camp.

This week United States Supreme Court agreed to hear the Justice Department's appeal against a lower court ruling that favored Ozurumba who said he was hired as a cook at a remote camp outside Lagos in 2022.

Ozumba said the training camp is operated by "Unknown Gunmen."

He said he later excaped after he worked for them as a cook but was not paid for six months.

AOKOYA is aware that Ozurumba already provided valid information about the location of the camp in Lagos State to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, [FBI].

He fled to the United States where he applied for asylum because he felt the suspected IPOB members sought to kill him for fear he might reveal their secret location.

The Richmond, Virginia-based 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals lifted the deportation order holding that cooking  meals for armed groups did not qualify as "material support" for terrorism under U.S. immigration laws.

AOKOYA in the statement signed by its Director of Operations,Col Abimbola Sowunmi said the recent revelation at the United States Court by Ozurumba that he escaped from the training camp of Unknown Gunmen/IPOB in Lagos State calls for full investigation.

AOKOYA said the "Unknown Gunmen" is an identity associated with Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, [IPOB] adding that the implication of the revelation is that IPOB has a training camp or many training camps in Lagos and across South West States.

AOKOYA said the development should not come as a surprise given the desperate and infantile dream and illusion  of some Biafra actualisers to seize Lagos at gunpoint in a nationwide crisis they hope to instigate in the reckless search for for Biafra.

The idea of having IPOB camp in Lagos allaigns with the public statements of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kano when, during ENDSARs protests, ordered IPOB members to enter into police barracks and military institutions in South West to seize guns and kill Yoruba state Governors.

"We call on the Police IG and the DSS to investigate  this all important information revealed in a Court in the US. The implication is that IPOB has   training ground(s) in Lagos State to arm miscreants that would overwhelm Lagos in a nationwide crisis they wish to spur. This also suggests that they have training camps across the South West. This falls in line with the aspirations of some IPOB armed members who have a false illusion that they can take Lagos and make it a No Man's Land.

This is also in line with the statement made in March 2023 by Fredrick Nwajagu, the self-styled Eze Igbo of Ajao Estate in Lagos State who said he would invite IPOB to protect Igbo and their property in Lagos.

The South West states fail to investigate this matter to their own peril.

AOKOYA said such a training camp may exist to either prepare IPOB for an onslaught on Lagos and entire Yorubaland or to train armed groups that would be sent to the field to raid banks, kill prominent Yoruba people and cause confusion during and after the 2027 Presidential election.

"We are aware of Fulani and Boko Haram armed cells across the South West states. The existence of IPOB armed training grounds in Lagos and possibly across South West adds to the precarious situation of Yorubaland in the face of leadership dominated by politically naive and self serving officials.
