A 70-member group known as the “70 ManTeam Olugbani Agenda” has been unveiled in Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), with a mandate to promote public awareness of the programmes, projects and achievements of the administration of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu.

The group, comprising selected appointees of the council chairman, was formally unveiled on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the conference hall of the council.

Addressing members of the group, Saliu said his emergence as council chairman was not something he had initially envisaged, attributing it to divine providence.

He recalled that he had initially accepted the position of vice chairman to demonstrate his support for another aspirant, but eventually became chairman.

The chairman, however, cautioned members that the present period was not for campaigning for local government elections, noting that attention was currently focused on the forthcoming state and federal elections.

According to him, the local government administration and members of the party have significant responsibilities in mobilising support and communicating with residents.

Jimoh also expressed concern over what he described as misinformation about projects executed by his administration. He cited the Makanjuola Street road project in Sari as an example, saying the road, which is slightly less than one kilometre, had been completed despite claims in some quarters that the project had not been executed.

He attributed the situation partly to inadequate publicity of the administration's projects and achievements, urging members of the group to actively share information released by the council's Chief Press Secretary through their personal social media platforms.

The chairman said greater dissemination of verified information would help residents become more aware of the council's activities.

He listed some of the roads completed by his administration as Amusu Street in Badia and Akinola Street in Sari, which he said was completed with street lighting amongst others.

Further he disclosed that the council had secured 13.5 plots of land for the construction of a secondary school, although commencement of the project had been delayed by the need to remove and evacuate a refuse deposit reportedly measuring about 30 metres deep from the site.

He further announced plans to construct Mosadolorun Street in the Oke-Oja area, saying the project was intended to address flooding and other difficulties faced by residents. He added that part of the area would be developed into a seaside relaxation space and said funds had been saved for the completion of the road.

On education, the chairman said members of the group would be invited through the offices of the Senior Special Adviser or supervisors to witness the distribution of school uniforms to pupils in public primary schools, from Primary One to Six.

He said the distribution had been delayed by the process of inscribing the phrase “Gain of Subsidy Removal” on the uniforms.

Jimoh also announced plans to distribute school bags containing notebooks, biros, pencils, sharpeners and erasers to pupils and students in public primary and secondary schools.

He charged members of the group to publicise such initiatives among their networks so that information about the programmes could reach a wider audience.

On youth empowerment, the chairman said his administration was working towards addressing unemployment by engaging youths from Apapa-Iganmu in revenue collection activities previously handled by people from outside the area.
He also said consideration would be given to the interests of elderly residents.

Saliu further encouraged members to introduce competent contractors who possess the required procurement licences, assuring that qualified contractors would be considered for council contracts in accordance with due process.

He tasked the group with creating effective ward platforms and structures, accommodating new members and ensuring that responsibilities were assigned to willing and active participants.

The chairman also urged members to remain vigilant and warned against what he referred to as “Judas” within the political structure.

He reiterated that his administration operates an open-door policy, saying residents and stakeholders could reach the Secretary to the Local Government, Chief of Staff and Supervisors when he is unavailable.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the coordinator of the group, Hon. Emmanuel Dede, said the primary objective of the “70 ManTeam Olugbani Agenda” was to promote awareness and understanding of the programmes, policies, projects, achievements and developmental initiatives of the present administration across communities in Apapa-Iganmu LCDA.

Dede said the group would work to ensure that the administration's activities were effectively communicated to residents at the grassroots.

He said the group would utilise social media and other communication platforms to publicise government programmes, events, achievements and opportunities while ensuring that relevant information reached residents promptly and accurately.

According to him, the group's activities would extend beyond official events and online platforms to streets, communities and wards across the LCDA.

Highlight of the event was the unveiling and presentation of the group's branded t-shirt and banner to the council chairman.

Dignatories at the occasion include the Secretary to the Local Government Council Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim Olanrewaju, Chief of Staff to the chairman Hon. Olanrewaju Fatai, chairman of elders council, Alhaji Bakare Olanrewaju, wife of the council chairman Alhaja Kikelomo Layeni -Jimoh, Alhaji Onikepe and host of others.
