The Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), Margaret Abimbola Adeseye, has been elected as the 2nd Vice President of the Fire Protection Association of Nigeria (FPAN) for a two-year term.
The election took place during the 2026 FPAN Conference, Fellowship, Awards and Annual General Meeting, held from 23rd to 25th September 2026 at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Conference Centre, Warri, Delta State.
The conference, themed “Building a Fire-Safe Nigeria: New Age Strategies for Fire Protection and Mitigation,” brought together key stakeholders, professionals and practitioners in the fire safety and protection sector to deliberate on emerging challenges and strategies for strengthening fire safety across Nigeria.
The Controller General, accompanied by officers of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, participated actively in the conference and delivered a presentation titled “Harmonising Fire Service Laws: A Legal and Policy Framework for Coordinated Federal and State Fire Safety.”
In her presentation, Adeseye highlighted the need for the establishment of a coordinated legal operational framework that clearly defines responsibilities, creates common minimum fire-safety standards, facilitates mutual assistance and eliminates unnecessary jurisdictional conflicts, while preserving the respective constitutional and statutory responsibilities of each level of governments. She emphasised the need for stronger institutional collaboration and legislative support for improved fire prevention, protection and emergency response.
The conference also featured the Fellowship and Awards ceremony, as well as the Annual General Meeting, during which a new executive leadership was constituted. Adeseye was subsequently elected 2nd Vice President of FPAN for a two-year tenure, alongside other members of the newly constituted executive.
Her election further provides an opportunity for the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service to contribute to broader professional and institutional efforts aimed at strengthening fire safety standards, collaboration and capacity development across Nigeria.
