A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Oluwole Olumayokun Oluyede, has congratulated teachers across Ekiti State, particularly members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), on the occasion of the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, urging them to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027.
Oluyede, who is the Convener of the Oluyede Progressive Alliance for Renewed Hope Agenda (OPARHA), described teachers as critical drivers of human capital development and nation-building, noting that the future of every society is largely determined by the quality of education provided to its younger generation.
In a message commemorating the annual celebration, Oluyede saluted the leadership and members of the Ekiti State NUT for their commitment to the teaching profession and their contribution to the development of education in the state.
He said teachers deserved greater recognition, improved welfare and better working conditions, stressing that no meaningful transformation could take place in the country without adequately motivated educators.
“Every professional in our society was once taught by a teacher. Every doctor, lawyer, engineer, journalist, entrepreneur and public servant passed through the hands of a teacher.
“Teachers are therefore not simply workers in the education sector; they are builders of the human beings who will determine the future of our nation,” he said.
Oluyede called on governments at all levels to continue investing in teachers’ professional development, modern teaching facilities and policies that would improve the welfare and dignity of the profession.
He also urged the Federal Government to sustain its engagement with education stakeholders and strengthen policies aimed at improving learning outcomes across the country.
Turning to the 2027 general elections, Oluyede appealed to the Ekiti NUT and teachers across the state to consider supporting President Tinubu’s re-election, arguing that the education sector should remain central to the national conversation as Nigerians assess the direction of the country.
He said his support for Tinubu’s 2027 bid was rooted in his belief that the country needed sustained attention to economic development, human capital and education.
According to him, teachers, as key stakeholders in the development of Nigeria’s human capital, have an important role to play in the national conversation ahead of the 2027 elections.
He urged them to examine the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration and other political actors and make their democratic choices based on issues affecting their profession, families and the wider society.
“Teachers are important stakeholders in the future of Nigeria. As we approach 2027, I encourage our teachers to be actively involved in the democratic process and to carefully assess the policies and programmes before them.
“I personally support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for another term and believe that education, human capital development and the welfare of teachers must remain central to the national agenda,” Oluyede stated.
The PDP chieftain also called for peaceful political participation, urging political leaders and their supporters to focus on issues that unite Nigerians rather than those capable of deepening divisions.
While celebrating teachers on their special day, Oluyede reaffirmed his appreciation for the Ekiti NUT and all teachers whose daily efforts continue to shape the minds and future of Nigerian children.
He said, “On this World Teachers’ Day, I salute every teacher in Ekiti State and across Nigeria. Your classroom may appear ordinary, but the lives you shape there can change families, communities and the nation.
“Your sacrifices matter, your contribution matters and your impact will endure. I wish our teachers a happy and rewarding World Teachers’ Day.”
