A community based group in Oshodi Isolo local government area of Lagos state ,known as Concerned Residents of Oshodi,Mafoluku,Shogunle and Ewutuntun has highlighted criteria expected of community leaders ,while calling on local government authority to ensure good,accountable and responsive governance.
The group OMSE at a one day seminar with the theme "role of a community leader in advancing development in the community ,held at the Legislative hall of the Oshodi Isolo local government in Oyetayo street had members of the community development committee, residents and special guests in attendance..
Popular Television Presenter and public Affairs Analyst,Mr Gbola Oba in his presentation,commended the Organizers 9f the even for the initiative ,stressing that such should be intensified
Mr Oba Disclosed that whoever want to lead the community must have integrity, must be empathetic,must be passionate about development and a problem solver .
He asserted that building of the community is not the business of the leadership ,but that of everybody in the community..
Mr Oba used his personal experience as a businessman and promoter of accountable governance,stressing that in all his life,he has remained a genuine person and accountable at all times.
The second presentation done by popular Betty Abbah where she mentioned unity as the first factor in a community and a leader must unite all his people at all times. She mentioned Kobe and integrity too as critical factor for community development,warning that corrupt tendencies in leader at the community level should be kicked against..
She appreciated the organizers for the seminar for the newly elected community development committees,advising that constant meetings and engagements critical to community development
The Secretary to the Local government,Hon Smart Olayinka on behalf of the council boss,Otunba Kehinde Almoroof Oloyede commended the Organizers for the seminar promising the council will at all times partner with any group or organization with lofty ideas that will drive development in the local government
Comrade Ayinde Olawale ,who is a member of the planning committee in his own reaction assured the participants that they should expect more of such programmes ,that in moving forward progressively as a community,constant interaction will be necessary
Earlier in his welcome address, Engr Babatunde Faleye, the chairman of OMSE announced that the association was formed basically to cater for the interest of the residents.
He stated further that the association will continue to collaborate with the local government inorder to bring development to the people, assuring that such programmes will continue to be put in place by OMSE
The event which lasted for about three hours was a successful outing by all standards as there were prominent community an political leaders in attendance,including,Clergyem, Artisans and supervisory councilors
