Lagos State Government Closes Katangua, ,Oke Afa markets

The Lagos state government has taken action against Katangua and Oke Afa markets for their failure to comply with environmental sanitation standards.

Both markets were closed down due to the presence of filth and various environmental violations. This is not the first time the government has enforced closures in various markets across the state for similar reasons.

Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, the General Manager of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, confirmed the closure of the two markets on Sunday.

In an update, Ajayi announced that Katangua market was sealed on January 21, 2024, by the monitoring and compliance team of LAWMA, citing severe violations of environmental sanitation rules. Similarly, Oke Afa market in Isolo was shut down on the same day by the Monitoring and Compliance Department due to subpar waste disposal practices and poor environmental sanitation.
