Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde will on Friday, July 12, present the staff of office to the Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, at the historic Mapo Hall, in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital. The event will also include the official crowning of Oba Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan land.
The state Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, counseled Ibadan people to be patient in matters like this. He said: “Our people must learn to be patient and believe an administration that has not let them down in five years,”
Remember that there have been insinuations in several quarters about an alleged intention of the state governor to deny the 84-year old Oba Olakulehin of the opportunity to ascend the throne due to old age.
The ancient stool of the Olubadan became vacant following the demise of Oba Lekan Balogun on March 14, 2024 while Ibadan kingmakers, at a meeting held on April 12, 2024, nominated and selected Oba Olakulehin as the Olubadan-designate in accordance with the Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration of 1957.He advised the people of Oyo State and Ibadan in particular to await the spectacle of the coronation and presentation of the staff of office on July 12.
