The Lagos State Government has demonstrated a heightened commitment to social inclusion through several recent initiatives. One such initiative is the extension of its food intervention program, Ounje Eko, to the youth constituency. This effort is spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, led by Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Honorable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development.
On Wednesday, 19th June 2024, the distribution commenced in the Lagos Division at Onikan Youth Centre. Yesterday, Thursday, 20th June, youths in the Ikorodu Division benefited from this intervention commemorated at Ita-Elewa Youth Centre. The remaining three divisions will be activated over the next few days to ensure that, while the entire youth population of the state cannot be catered to at once, the intervention significantly impacts each division.
To ensure fairness and transparency, a portal was managed by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos State Chapter, where youths registered, and beneficiaries were selected on a first-come, first-served basis.
According to Hon. Ogunlende, “Our Administration’s commitment to youth is not merely paperwork; it’s a commitment by action, and this, among many other interventions, reflects it.”
“Additionally, transparency is key to this initiative. The portal and the first-come, first-served basis selection process ensures true transparency. This is not about APC, PDP, LP, or any political affiliation; it is about the welfare of Lagos residents in this critical moment.”
