LAHA MEMBER,HON OGUNDIPE COMMENDS RE INTRODUCTION OF "OUNJE EKO

The member representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency-1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly and  the Chairman of the House Committee on Information Strategy and Security, Hon Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode


has commended and expressed his strong support for the Lagos State Government's reintroduction of the OUNJE EKO initiative, which officially restarted on Sunday, 1st September, 2024. This initiative, spearheaded by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu aims to provide essential food support to residents and alleviate the economic challenges faced by many families.


In his remarks, Hon. Ogundipe emphasized the significance of the OUNJE EKO initiative in light of the ongoing economic transformation efforts at the federal level. He noted that such programmes are crucial in addressing the immediate needs of the populace and providing relief during these challenging times. "The reintroduction of OUNJE EKO is a commendable step by the Lagos State Government, as it directly contributes to the well-being of our citizens," he stated.


However, Hon. Ogundipe also urged the government to consider further measures to enhance the programmed's effectiveness. He called for a reduction in the prices of some food items offered through the initiative, making them more accessible to a broader segment of the population. "While the programme is a positive development, we must ensure that the food items provided are affordable for all residents, particularly those in lower-income brackets," he added.


Additionally, Hon. Ogundipe who is also the image maker of the Lagos Assembly proposed that the scheduled day for the programme be shifted from Sunday to Saturday to enable more participation since most people go shopping on weekends. He believes that this change would allow more families to participate and benefit from the initiative, as weekends typically offer greater flexibility for individuals to engage in community activities. "By moving the programme to Saturday, we can maximize participation and ensure that more families have the opportunity to access these vital initiative," he explained.
