Officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Imo/Abia Area Command, organised a grand retirement ceremony for Comptroller Elisha Luka (Rtd.), marking the end of his illustrious service.
In a press statement signed on 10 December 2024 by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Customs Nnamdi Aligwekwe, Comptroller Luka’s tenure as the Customs Area Controller, which began on 27 March 2024, was highlighted. The statement noted that Luka served for eight months, one week, and four days, during which he provided quality leadership, leading to a turnaround in the operations of the Command.
Deputy Comptroller Administration, Musa Mohammed, lauded the outgoing CAC for his open-door policy, which fostered sustainable collaboration between the command and other security agencies in Imo State. “Despite operational challenges, such as low activities at bonded terminals and the temporary suspension of operations by Nigeria Breweries in Awomama, the command achieved a revenue generation of ₦19.39 billion during his tenure,” Mohammed stated.
In his farewell address, Comptroller Luka (Rtd.) reflected on his journey in active service and expressed gratitude to the officers and men of the command for their dedication, which contributed to his successes. He urged them to embrace all deployments in the service's best interest, avoiding selfish tendencies.
Officers and men serving in the command praised Luka’s leadership and achievements. They commended his contributions to the command’s growth.
Representatives from excise factories and bonded terminals, including Nwaeze Chukwuemeka of the Nigerian Bottling Company and Clifford Egbere, also applauded the outgoing CAC for his service and wished him well in retirement.
The statement further noted that the ceremony concluded with a historic visual display showcasing all Customs Area Controllers who had served in the Imo/Abia Command from 1980 to 2024.
