NEMA Uyo Operations Office flags off the distribution of relief items to victims of flood disaster in Bakassi/Akpabuyo and Calabar South Federal constituency, Cross River State on Tuesday 24th December, 2024. The relief items were made up of food Items.
The distribution exercise was flagged off by the Director General, NEMA Mrs Zubaida Umar (Mrs) ably represented by the Ag. Head of Operations, NEMA Uyo, Mrs Mmandu Aisueni. She expressed the heartfelt condolences of the DG to the people adding that the items were to help cushion the eff
ect of the disaster. She also charged the beneficiaries to be safety conscious most especially as we are in the dry season that is associated with fire outbreaks.
Rt. Hon. Joseph Bassey of the House of Representatives for Bakassi/Akpabuyo and Calabar South Federal Constituency appreciated the Federal Government through NEMA for providing the items to ameliorate the suffering of his people. He thanked NEMA for the swift and timely intervention while urging the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items. He further corroborated the need for people to heed disaster warnings as well as collaborate with the government to reduce the impact of these natural hazards by maintaining good environmental practices.
In their responses, beneficiaries from the three (3) LGAs/federal constituency thanked the Federal Government and NEMA for the relief assistance given.
Other relevant stakeholders at the distribution were the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Local Government Chairmen, Community Leaders and the media.
