The newly appointed zonal Coordinator of National Emergency Management Agency NEMA North Central Zonal office Jos Mr Adebiyi B Razaq on Monday 23rd December 2024 received Mr Frederick G.Sylvanus, Nigeria capacity Building Coordinator of United States Department of Agriculture.
Mr Frederick said he is on a working visit to the zone to assess the level of coordination of NEMA and the SEMA s in the zone and the mode of operations and also the need for Emergency Operations Centers at the state levels to ease Emergency Response.
He's also to identify the statutory institution of the State Emergency Agency's in the zone and NEMAs relationship with the State Emergency Management Agencies in the zone , their response capacities and challenges.
The zonal coordinator who chaired the meeting along with other principal officers of the zone provided the visitor with hands - on field experiences from various and recent interventions and responses.
He noted from his trip and visit to the SEMAs that, most of what makes up SEMA at some of the state is a congregation of workers pulled from the vafrious ministries to run emergencies.
These are not professionals and sometimes placed under politically appointed heads, Most times leading to the incontinuity of plans and contingencies.
He further stressed the need to work with nema at the zone in order to have a database and records of disasters and their level of occurrences to be well documented.
Capacity building, data analysis and documented records ,will be handy for reference purposes.
Benue state in the zone is one of the pilot states to be examined.
NEMA at the zonal level has expressed her unwavering support and assured him of adequate further collaborations.
