LAGOS OEQA TEAM MONITORS SCHOOLS RESUMPTION COMPLIANCE

In a bid to ensure that all schools below the tertiary level comply with the School's Resumption date as contained in the Harmonized Academic Calendar for 2024/2025, the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) has commenced a school resumption monitoring exercise.

The Coordinating Director of OEQA, Mr. Remi Abdul, who led the monitoring team, speaking during the exercise on Monday at the Ikeja Senior High School, GRA, Ikeja, stated that the monitoring is meant to ensure compliance with Government directives on school resumption as stated in the Year 2024/2025 Academic Calendar.

Abdul explained that the Monitoring Exercise is carried out to ascertain the level of compliance of schools, stating further that the State Government had earlier released the Year 2024/2025 Academic Calendar for schools to resume for each term at a particular date.

He disclosed that part of the essence of the monitoring exercise is to ensure the readiness of schools for academic and non-academic activities as well as the readiness of learners and teachers to commence teaching and learning in schools.

Abdul also informed that the exercise is also to ascertain the level of safety and preparedness of the school managers for the children, saying that the State lays much premium on Safe Guilding and Child Protection.

"In addition, we go out to check Academic and Statutory records if necessary information has been filled in preparation for the academic session; we check the environment and facilities on the ground to ensure adequate safety of learners and teachers", Abdul said.

The Coordinator also reminded Principals/Owners of Schools of the initiatives, such as the re-introduction of extracurricular activities put together by the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, to ensure improved learning outcomes.

Abdul, however, admonished the Head of Schools/Principals to encourage Teachers and other academic staff to register for the mandatory online training/course on Safeguarding and Child Protection, which is free via the OEQA website: www.oeqalagos.com.

The Director of Monitoring and Investigation, Mrs. Khafilat Ashimi, a member of the team, explained that the exercise is scheduled to hold from Monday, April 28th - Tuesday, May 6th, 2025 and would cover both Government and Private schools across the six Education Districts.

The monitoring team included the Coordinating Director of Education District Six, Mrs. Folusade Sofola; the Director of Quality Assurance, Mr. Taofeek Ajibade and the Director of Private Education and Special Programmes, Dr. Suleiman Ogunmuyiwa, among others.
