Lagos Handball men's team staged an impressive performance to secure a 25-24 victory against the Sokoto team in their opening match at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Team Lagos demonstrated their prowess in the game, holding their own against a formidable Sokoto team in the keenly contested at the Alake Sports Centre.

Despite facing early pressure, Team Lagos showed resilience and determination, sending a strong message to other teams  on their quest for glory at the multi-sport fiesta.

Clad in white and black jerseys, Lagos found their rhythm after a good composition from the backline, tightening their defense, limited Team Sokoto chances, and capitalized on their attacking opportunities.

After the halftime break, the Eko boys returned stronger and displayed accurate passes and clinical finishing. One of the standout moments came when Lagos goalkeeper Sanni Bature made a crucial save from a seven-meter penalty, denying the opponents a vital goal. His composure, focus, and sharp reflexes kept his team in contention.

In the post-match interview, Lagos State Coach, Duru Olubukola, expressed satisfaction with the victory, saying that the team played according to instructions.

"There's no team that's not strong here.We keep fighting until we get to the top. We are well supported and motivated by the Lagos State Sports Commission. So, we hope to get the gold.

Olubukola noted they are not going to underrate any team as team Lagos looks forward to coming out stronger in their next outing against team Osun.

Lagos team captain, Yahyah Owolabi, said the team will take the match one after the other and will not undermine any team, as they are going to improve on their performance.

"We are going to come out with full force, try to conquer them, and take the lead from the beginning," Owolabi said.

In another development, Lagos State deaf badminton sensation, Abraham Koffi, breezed to semi-finals after he conveniently outpace Emmanuel Kelechi from Rivers State 2-0 (21-14, 23-21) in the men's quarter-finals.
