Saudi Arabia announces Sighting of Moon,Date for Eid-u-adha



The crescent moon marking the start of Zil Haj has been sighted in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Indonesia and Oman, confirming that Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on Friday, June 6, in both countries.


As per the media reports, Saudi authorities confirmed that Zil Haj will begin on Wednesday, May 28, making Waquf-e-Arafa fall on Thursday, June 5, and Eid-ul-Adha on the following day, Friday, June 6. The official announcement was made after moon-sighting committees verified testimonies from multiple regions across the Kingdom.


In Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim-majority country, religious authorities also confirmed the sighting of the moon, aligning the Eid-ul-Adha celebration with Saudi Arabia on June 6.

The moon of Zil Haj was sighted in Oman also, making Eid-ul-Adha in the country on June 6, according to local media reports.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. It is one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar and is marked by communal prayers, sacrifice of animals, and distribution of meat among the needy.
