NEMA Distributes Relief Materials to Ocean Surge Victims in Ilaje, Ondo State



The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Ado‑Ekiti Operations Office, in collaboration with the Ondo State Emergency Management Agency (Ondo SEMA), has distributed relief materials to victims of the ocean surge that ravaged Mahin Kingdom and Ayetoro in Ilaje Local Government Area, Ondo State.


Prior to the distribution, NEMA conducted an assessment of the affected communities alongside Ondo SEMA and other stakeholders to determine the level of damage caused by the disaster.


Representing the Director‑General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, the Head of SAR Unit at Ado‑Ekiti Operations Office, Abogunrin Adesina, commiserated with the affected people, urging them to move to higher ground to avoid future loss of lives. He emphasized that the disaster was largely influenced by human interactions with nature and the environment, advising communities to adopt early warning alerts and integrate disaster prevention measures into their action plans.


He also stated that the items distributed were intended to cushion the effects of the disaster and aid recovery efforts.


The Executive Secretary of Ondo SEMA, Mr. Frederick Orunko, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and NEMA for the timely release of relief materials and urged the people to adhere to early warning signals issued by state and local authorities. He reiterated that such measures would help reduce the risk and impact of future disasters across the coastal communities in Ilaje Local Government Area.
