The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the just-concluded local government elections held across the state state on Saturday
According to the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), the APC clinched all 20 Local Government Area (LGA) chairmanship seats, all 37 Local Council Development Area (LCDA) chairmanship positions, and 375 out of 376 councillorship slots available.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on the other hand, managed to secure only one councillorship seat in Ward D of the Yaba LCDA, making it the sole win for the opposition party in an election widely considered a political landslide for the APC.
This outcome not only highlights the strength of the ruling party’s grassroots structure in Lagos but also underscores the challenge opposition parties face in gaining political ground in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
Observers have noted the peaceful conduct of the polls, although with voter turnout, as seen in previous local elections, remained relatively low.
