In a resounding tribute to twenty-five years of institutional excellence and unwavering dedication to traffic regulation and urban mobility management, the Lagos State Government has finalized elaborate plans to convene the 2nd Lagos Traffic Conference, a centrepiece of commemorative events marking the Silver Jubilee of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

The epochal gathering, scheduled to hold from Tuesday, 15th to Thursday, 17th July 2025 at the iconic Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, is expected to assemble an illustrious array of transportation experts, public policymakers, technocrats, academics, urban development consultants, law enforcement officials, private-sector investors, and global stakeholders.

This confluence of minds will critically examine the challenges, opportunities, and innovations in Lagos’ ever-evolving traffic and mobility landscape.

Themed: “Enhancing Traffic Efficiency and Safety on Lagos Roads: Challenges, Opportunities and Innovations,” the conference will serve as an intellectual crucible for multi-sectoral dialogue, peer-learning, and strategic foresight.

A historic highlight of the event will be the formal unveiling of the Lagos State 20-Year Strategic Traffic Management Policy, a visionary masterplan conceived to recalibrate the State’s transport ecosystem, elevate infrastructural efficiency, optimize enforcement architecture, and integrate cutting-edge smart mobility systems.

His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, will officially declare the Conference open as the Special Guest of Honour. In his keynote address, the Governor is anticipated to articulate the administration’s transformative vision for an inclusive, integrated and future-forward transport network, tailored to address the complexities of urban mobility in a megacity approaching global prominence.

Speaking ahead of the Conference, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Honourable Sola Giwa, described the event as both a retrospective celebration and a forward-looking engagement, underscoring the State’s unwavering dedication to traffic decongestion, commuter safety, intelligent traffic control, sustainable mobility and environmentally responsible transport alternatives.

As a spiritual curtain-raiser to the three-day programme, the LASTMA leadership, under the stewardship of the General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare Oki, hosted a solemn Thanksgiving Church Service today (Sunday, 13th July 2025), at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Ikeja. The interdenominational service was graced by top government functionaries, agency personnel, and well-wishers who assembled to express profound gratitude for LASTMA’s enduring relevance and divine preservation over the past two and a half decades.

In his goodwill message at the thanksgiving, Mr. Bakare Oki extolled the foresight of the institution’s founding visionaries and paid glowing tribute to the gallant officers—past and present—whose tireless commitment and sacrifice have sustained the agency’s operational mandate, often in highly challenging circumstances.

He further acknowledged the consistent and invaluable support of the Lagos State Government in enhancing LASTMA’s institutional capacity, operational reach, and public image, while noting that the journey of 25 years has been defined not only by longevity but by strategic impact and adaptive innovation.

According to the GM: “This Silver Jubilee celebration is not merely ceremonial; it symbolizes a deliberate reflection on our legacy and a bold recommitment to our evolving mission. The 2nd Lagos Traffic Conference is a clear affirmation of the State Government’s resolve to harness data-driven governance, stakeholder synergy, and advanced technological solutions in shaping the future of urban mobility.”

The Conference will feature a series of intellectually rigorous sessions, including high-level plenaries, keynote presentations, policy roundtables, technical briefings, breakout discussions, and a curated exhibition of next-generation traffic management technologies, enforcement equipment, and smart transport innovations.

Among the dignitaries and stakeholders expected to grace the event are members of the Lagos State Executive Council, senior officials from federal transport regulatory bodies, commanding officers of allied agencies such as the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), Nigeria Police, and representatives of civil society organisations. International mobility experts, development partners, and urban transport scholars have also been invited to provide global insights into local solutions.

As LASTMA marks a milestone of 25 years of purposeful existence, the 2nd Lagos Traffic Conference stands as both a solemn reflection on its pioneering journey and a visionary springboard into the future of mobility in Lagos Africa’s commercial nerve centre and global gateway to the world
