The Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Dr. Tony Ojukwu has tasked religious leaders to stand tall in the fight against human rights violation.
Speaking at a one-day Human Rights Sensitisation and Awareness Creation for Religious Leaders in FCT, Abuja, Ojukwu said: “In a word often divided by conflicts, inequality and misunderstanding, your leadership is more crucial than ever in bridging divides and advocating for the fundamental rights of all individuals.”
He noted: “Religious leaders have always played a pivotal role in shaping moral values, guiding conscience, and fostering unity, your voice carry immense weight in your communities, your teachings inspire millions to uphold dignity, compassion and mutual respect.”
Ojukwu who was represented by a Director in the Commission, Dr. Benedict Agu, told them that: “In a word often divided by conflicts, inequality and misunderstanding, your leadership is more crucial than ever in bridging divides and advocating for the fundamental rights of all individuals.”
He explained to them, that: “This programme is designed to deepen our understanding of human rights principles as it align with our diverse faith as well as, explore practical strategies for peace building to equip us with the tools for effective conflict resolution.”
He said: “By engaging in open dialogue, sharing experiences and learning from one another, we can strengthen our collective efforts to build societies where justice prevails, differences are respected and peace is sustained.
“I encourage each of us to share insights from our own spiritual, traditional and community leadership experiences. Finally let us all resolve to leave here with deeper knowledge and skill on human rights as well as renewed commitment to be ambassadors of peace and defenders of human rights.”
