Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel on Thursday commissioned the Renewed Hope International Market in Ìgodè, Sagamu, during the Midterm Community Assessment and Review Tour of the BATOGD Movement, where he reiterated his unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and appealed to the Ogun State Government to urgently address the poor road network hindering the new market’s potential.
In an emotionally charged address, Daniel acknowledged the difficulties faced by attendees due to the deplorable condition of the road leading to the community. He noted that the choice of Ìgodè for the project was strategic—to bring development to the hinterlands and draw government attention to neglected areas.
“We chose Ìgodè for a reason. When we started this project, there was no road. We had to deploy personal funds to make it motorable. I call on the state government to tar this road and open up this community for economic optimization,” he stated.
The event also featured the formal unveiling of the BATOGD Movement, a grassroots mobilization group dedicated to supporting the political ideals of Senator Daniel and President Tinubu. Daniel described his relationship with the President as one built on over three decades of mutual political respect and shared vision, tracing policy implementations in Ogun State during his tenure as governor to templates earlier introduced by Tinubu in Lagos.
“Our Gateway Response Squad was modeled after Lagos Rapid Response Squad; the return of schools to missions and OGROMA were also inspired by Lagos initiatives. My support for President Tinubu is sacrosanct,” he declared.
He praised the President’s bold economic policies, including the removal of fuel subsidy and foreign exchange reforms, which he said, though painful, were necessary to reposition the nation’s economy.
Daniel also highlighted several people-oriented programs and projects facilitated through his office and the Gateway Front Foundation (GFF), including:
Over 5,000 petty traders and artisans supported with interest-free loans
More than 3,000 free cataract surgeries with 100% success rate
Over 1,000 educational bursaries awarded across Ogun East
Construction of a Naval Base at Abigi/Makun-Omi, now at an advanced stage
He expressed gratitude to Governor Dapo Abiodun for continuing the Agro-Cargo Airport project initiated during his administration and announced that an aviation school—the second of its kind in Nigeria—is now underway in Akaka Remo.
On national advocacy, Daniel revealed that he is spearheading the creation of a new state from the old Ijebu Province, with 75 senators already endorsing the proposal. He also noted that the South West Development Commission Bill, which he sponsored, has received presidential support.
The senator urged state governors to justify the increased allocations resulting from fuel subsidy removal by delivering visible developmental projects.
The event was attended by community leaders, party supporters, and beneficiaries of various empowerment programs, who praised Daniel’s consistency in fulfilling campaign promises and advocating for grassroots development.
