The TinCan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has successfully concluded a week-long in-house training programme for senior officers, aimed at enhancing professionalism, operational competence, and leadership capacity across units.
This was disclosed in a press statement by the Public Relations Officer, TinCan Island Port Command, Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC) Oscar Ivara.
The intensive training, held from Monday, 13 October to Friday, 17 October 2025, at the Command’s premises, brought together officers from various departments to boost efficiency and deepen expertise in critical areas of customs operations.
Declaring the programme open, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Frank Onyeka, underscored the importance of continuous learning and professional development in achieving the Command’s objectives.
“This training is not just a routine exercise but an investment in the growth of our personnel,” Comptroller Onyeka stated. “I encourage every officer to apply the knowledge gained here to their duties and remain committed to excellence in service delivery.”
He further disclosed that while the just-concluded session focused on senior officers, similar capacity-building initiatives would soon be extended to junior officers, ensuring inclusivity in the Command’s drive towards enhanced productivity and professionalism.
The week-long exercise featured seasoned resource persons drawn from within the Command, reflecting the depth of expertise available internally. Core topics covered included Physical Examination (handled by the Customs Area Controller), Reputation Management, Risk Management and Documentary Checks, Evidence Exploitation, Customs Procedure Codes, Classification, VIN Valuation, Customs Valuation, Code of Conduct, and Customs Administration, among others.
In his closing remarks, Comptroller Onyeka reiterated the Command’s commitment to developing a well-rounded, skilled, and proactive workforce capable of meeting the evolving challenges of modern customs operations.
Participants described the training as highly insightful and impactful, commending the Command’s leadership for prioritising officer development.
