NEMA Staff Honours DG Zubaida Umar for Exemplary Leadership

Staff of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on , honoured the Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, for her exemplary leadership and outstanding commitment to repositioning the Agency for greater efficiency, inclusiveness, and service delivery.

The recognition was presented by the Chairman of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), NEMA Chapter, Comrade AbdulKareem Ali, who led officials of the staff unions to confer the honour on the Director General at the Agency’s Headquarters in Abuja.

In his remarks, Comrade Ali commended Mrs. Zubaida Umar for transforming NEMA into a more proactive and people-driven institution, emphasizing that her visionary leadership has inspired confidence, strengthened teamwork, and fostered a renewed sense of purpose across all cadres of the workforce.
He further noted that under her stewardship, the Agency has witnessed remarkable reforms,  particularly in institutional strengthening, capacity building, and the creation of an enabling environment for professional growth and motivation among staff.

Responding, Mrs. Zubaida Umar expressed heartfelt appreciation to the staff for the recognition, describing it as “deeply meaningful because it comes from my own team.” She reaffirmed her commitment to maintaining an open, transparent, and progressive leadership style that promotes teamwork, innovation, and accountability.

The Director General attributed NEMA’s recent milestones to the dedication and professionalism of its workforce, noting that “the Agency’s success is a collective achievement driven by the shared passion and resilience of its personnel.”

She also highlighted NEMA’s renewed drive to strengthen grassroots preparedness through advocacy for the establishment of Local Emergency Management Committees (LEMCs) across the states—an initiative aimed at enhancing community-based disaster risk reduction and ensuring effective response at the local level.
