… Distributes Nutritional Food Packs To Expectant Mothers
In its ongoing commitment to promoting inclusive governance through civic engagement, the Lagos State Government, through the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement (OPL&CE) is holding its Social Intervention Civic Engagement programme- Mother and Infant Child Development (MICHD) across the six health districts in the State.
The ongoing event was recently flagged off at the Lagos State Health District IV, Akerele Primary Health Centre, Surulere, while its fifth edition was held today at the Lagos State Health District II, Somolu Local Government Secretariat. The programme has already been successfully held across Health Districts II, III, IV, V and VI, while District I is scheduled to hold on Monday, 17 November 2025.
Speaking at one of the events, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Engr. Sholabomi Shasore said that the event reaffirms the State Government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that every Lagos resident, especially mothers and children, benefits from the State’s inclusive development policies and civic engagement frameworks.
She added that the ongoing programme is not just about providing pregnant mothers with nutritional food packs, but an initiative that expands the state’s civic engagement frontier from dialogue and consultation to direct social empowerment, aimed at investing and empowering expectant mothers to become partners in the collective effort of building a resilient and productive citizenry and State.
She further added that by engaging the expectant mothers, the State Government is strengthening the foundational unit of society and ensuring that no generation is left behind in the dividends of good governance.
“Our Office was created for citizenry engagement and our vision is to build a Lagos where everyone is engaged, fulfilled, and living in harmony. This programme being held, is a demonstration of compassionate governance, where the government's presence is felt tangibly in people’s lives. So, as we distribute these nutritional packs, please note - the Lagos State Government is listening and responding to its people. You are seen. You are valued”, she affirmed.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health District II, Dr Dayo Lajide, said that Lagos State Government is doing all it can to support the residents, and one of such initiatives is the event being held today.
She further revealed that another laudable initiative of the State Government is the “Ilera-Eko” Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme (LASHMA), a project designed to make quality healthcare affordable and accessible to all residents, adding that residents who register under the ÃŒlera Èkó Health Insurance Plan will have access to a wide range of medical services in accredited hospital across Lagos State by paying a subsides annual premium coverage.
While delivering his goodwill message, the Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, represented by his wife, Hajia Shakirat Temitope Ashimi, appreciated the Lagos State Government, adding that it is essential for pregnant mothers to receive adequate care and support during and after pregnancy.
She commended the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement for bringing governance closer to the grassroots through impactful initiatives such as the Mother, Infant and Child Health Development (MICHD) Programme, and encouraged pregnant women to take advantage of the programme and get necessary information about the various government policies that will be beneficial to them.
The highlight of the programme was the State Engagement session, which provided an avenue for participants to raise vital questions and concerns bordering on Governance, Health Issues and Ilera-Eko Health Scheme service delivery at the grassroots. Some of the concerns were addressed, while others were noted for action by relevant officials during the engagement session.
Present at the event were Officials of the Somolu Local Government, Health Workers from various Public Health Centres under Lagos State Health District II, Directors and staff of the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement.
