The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Plateau/Benue/Nasarawa Area Command has recorded a leadership transition following the redeployment and retirement of senior officers within the Service.
In a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chinyam Michael, Comptroller Garba Bashir officially assumed duty as the new Area Controller on Monday, 16 December 2025. He took over from the outgoing Area Controller, Comptroller Aminu Abubakar, during a formal handover ceremony held at the Customs House Dogon Karfe Jos, with senior officers and men of the Command in attendance.
According to the statement, the leadership change marks a new phase in the administration of the Command, aimed at sustaining operational efficiency and strengthening service delivery across the Plateau, Benue and Nasarawa operational areas.
In his farewell address, Comptroller Abubakar expressed gratitude to the management of the NCS for the opportunity to serve. He thanked officers and men of the Command for their dedication, cooperation and support throughout his tenure, urging them to extend the same loyalty, respect and commitment to the new Area Controller.
“I am grateful for the support I received from officers and men of this Command. I encourage you all to give Comptroller Garba Bashir the same cooperation and dedication to enable him succeed,” he said.
In his remarks, Comptroller Bashir described it as an honour to succeed his predecessor, commending him for the professionalism and achievements recorded under his leadership.
“I am deeply grateful to my predecessor. It is an honour to build on the solid foundation he has laid, and I am committed to sustaining and improving on the gains recorded by this Command,” Bashir stated.
The new Customs Area Controller pledged to work diligently with officers and stakeholders to ensure the Command attains its full operational potential. He emphasised the need for discipline, integrity and professionalism in the discharge of official duties.
“As officers and men of this prestigious Service, we must uphold the highest standards of professionalism and discipline to ensure effective service delivery and contribute meaningfully to national development,” he added.
