EDUCATION DISTRICT IV COMMEMORATES 2025 WORLD AIDS DAY

The global observance of World AIDS Day, held annually on December 1, continues to serve as a powerful platform for raising awareness on HIV/AIDS, promoting advocacy, and combating stigma and discrimination against people living with the virus

In commemoration of the 2025 edition, staff of Lagos State Education District IV gathered at the District Headquarters in Lagos in a symbolic show of solidarity, reaffirming the education sector’s pivotal role in sustaining Nigeria’s national HIV response.

The 2025 theme, “Overcoming Disruptions: Sustaining Nigeria’s HIV Response,” underscores a nationwide call for resilience, continued education, and strengthened institutional support in the collective effort to eliminate HIV/AIDS.

In alignment with statewide directives, the Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA) and in collaboration with the Federal Government, encouraged active participation across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

This year’s commemoration offers an opportunity to reflect on Lagos State’s progressive strides in prevention advocacy, public sensitisation, and enhanced support for communities and individuals affected by HIV/AIDS. It also serves as a moment to honour the memory of those lost to AIDS-related illnesses while renewing the commitment to a future free of the pandemic.

As part of the service-wide activity, public servants across Education District IV adorned red ribbons on their official attire, an enduring global symbol of unity, compassion, and support for People Living with HIV (PLHIV). Baskets containing red ribbons were distributed across MDAs statewide to amplify a unified institutional stance against stigma and discrimination.

The group photograph taken by District IV staff further demonstrated the district’s active participation in civic advocacy, extending its role beyond education management into people-centred public health support.

World AIDS Day remains a critical moment to consolidate gains in prevention education, awareness campaigns, treatment advocacy, and community empowerment across Lagos State.

Education District IV reaffirms its unwavering commitment to sustained public sensitisation, workplace advocacy, community-based support, and continuous education that strengthen Nigeria’s HIV response at all levels.
