The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has celebrated Guinness Nigeria Plc for its 75 years of industry leadership, community impact, and deep-rooted partnership with Lagos State and the Nigerian people.
He gave the accolade at the 75th Anniversary Dinner held on Monday, December 8, 2025, at the Grand Ballroom of the Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island.
The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. 'Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, applauded Guinness Nigeria’s transformative journey from a modest trading outfit in 1950 to a global manufacturing giant with enduring social footprints across the country.
He said, "Since the establishment of its first brewery in Lagos in 1962, the first outside Ireland and Great Britain, the company not only anchored its operations in Nigeria but also became woven into the culture, economy, and everyday lives of millions."
He emphasised that Guinness Nigeria’s story “has never been just about beer,” but about the people, communities, and shared identity that the company has helped shape for generations.
The Governor highlighted some of the company’s most impactful social initiatives, such as the Water of Life Programme, which has provided over 500,000 Nigerians with sustained access to clean drinking water, improved sanitation, and enhanced community health.
He also applauded the Plan-W, a women-focused initiative that equips beneficiaries with entrepreneurial and financial skills for better livelihoods, as well as the
Educational investments, including the Guinness Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme, continue to open opportunities for bright Nigerian students.
He described Guinness projects and interventions, legacies, and appreciated the company for demonstrating that true success is measured not only in profit but in measurable, lasting social impact.
He further expressed gratitude to generations of founders, workers, farmers, partners, and consumers who have shaped Guinness Nigeria’s journey over the last seven decades, describing the milestone as proof of what is possible “when global confidence meets local commitment.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism for deeper collaboration with Lagos State, enhanced industrial capacity, and more sustainable, community-focused growth.
He extended heartfelt congratulations to Guinness Nigeria and prayed for more remarkable 75 years after being marked by continued innovation, prosperity, and success.
