In line with its mandate and as a foremost driving school institute in Nigeria, Lagos State Drivers' Institute (LASDRI) has partnered Guinness Nigeria Plc and the Coalition of Driving Schools Association in Lagos State to stage an auto-cade ember months safety advocacy campaign.
Speaking at the event held recently at Ojota along Lagos/Ibadan toll gate corridor, the General Manager, Lagos State Drivers Institute (LASDRI), Mrs Afusat Tiamiyu stated that in line with the provision of the agency, LASDRI has started ember months safety advocacy campaign since September this year by providing daily safety tips reminders through radio jingle, audio visual animations and visitation to Motor park and garages. The campaign aims to reinforce the safety message to the residents and the need to stay alert and drive responsibly.
Tiamiyu said the ember months’ safety advocacy primarily focuses on reducing road crashes during the high traffic year-end period by tackling human factors like distracted driving, overloading, speeding and drunk driving through public enlightenment to promote responsible behaviour and safer roads.
She noted that the agency has identified road transport Union members and Public Transport drivers as a major factor, hence, LASDRI has taken an ember months safety advocacy campaign to some major motor parks in the state, which include, Ketu/Ojota, Iyana lba, Iyana Ipaja, Trailer Tanker Park at Lilipod Apapa and Bonny Camp Motor Park at Victoria Island Lagos, among others.
According to her, "Our collective goal for this campaign is to make road safety engaging and memorable by sharing festive illustrations and simple, practical advice. We hope to remind everyone to take extra care, whether they are behind the wheel or walking along the road".
She commended Guinness Nigeria Plc, Traffic management agencies and other stakeholders present to educate and caution the motoring public on the need to embrace safety precautions, noting that road safety remains a shared responsibility which no single organisation can effectively tackle alone without the support and collaboration of relevant stakeholders.
The event attracted officials of LASTMA, VIS, FRSC, and Road Union Members.
