The University of Ibadan Alumni Association, Lagos Branch—the primus inter pares of alumni associations in Nigeria, founded in 1958 has elected a new set of leaders to pilot the affairs of the association for the next two years.
The election took place at the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Sunday, 21 December 2025, at the Lagos Civil Service Club, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos. This was disclosed in a statement issued in Lagos on Monday by the Association’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Wale Fatade.
According to the statement, Comrade Michael Popoola Ajayi, a 1992 graduate of the University of Ibadan and a long-serving member of the executive council, emerged as the new Chairman of the Lagos Branch. Until his election, Comrade Ajayi had served the Association with distinction as Branch Secretary and Vice Chairman for several years, and now assumes leadership as the public face of the pioneer alumni association in Lagos.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman, Comrade Michael Popoola Ajayi, expressed profound gratitude to members for the renewed confidence reposed in him and his team. He reaffirmed their commitment to service and to giving back to Nigeria’s Premier University. He further called on alumni across all generations to remain actively involved in the Association, stressing that taking the Lagos Branch to greater heights is a collective responsibility.
