The Lagos State Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), under the leadership of Chairman Comr. Alhaji Adekunle Adio Olanrewaju Sego, celebrated a momentous occasion today: the commissioning of an ultramodern garage and welfare program for the families of former state chairmen. The event, held in Ebute Metta, Lagos Mainland Local Government, was attended by a host of dignitaries.
Among those present were the Oba of Lagos, Oba Ridwan Osuolale Akinolu who was represented by High Chief Lateef Ajose Aderibigbe - Opeluwa Onido of Lagos; the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Lagos, Hon. Tayo Ayinde; the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, RT Hon. Mudashiru Obasa; the SSA to the President on Youths and Sports, Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye; and the SSA to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa.
The Chief of Staff emphasized the visibility of the Greater Lagos agenda, highlighting how seamless transportation would foster economic prosperity. Speaker Obasa urged Union members to promote President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and encouraged them to secure their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) to protect Lagos. Hon. Sola Giwa encouraged motorists to utilize the new garage to its full capacity, aiming to alleviate traffic congestion.
Following the commissioning, a welfare package was presented to the families of the former state chairmen. These individuals were recognized for their dedication to the Union and their support of the state. Families received cash prizes: 5,000,000 Naira from the NURTW and 2,500,000 Naira from Mr. Seyi Tinubu, son of the President, totaling 7,500,000 Naira. The beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude, feeling their families' contributions were finally being acknowledged.
Mrs. Success, a widow of a past state chairman, shared her appreciation for Chairman Sego's thoughtfulness. She noted that his initiative to prioritize the welfare of the families was unprecedented, and in a moment of emotion, she recalled her late husband, whose legacy Sego had helped revive. She expressed her hope that the sacrifices of their heroes would not be in vain.
