Iran: IGP Directs Increased Monitoring in the North

The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, issued a directive on Sunday for all 37 Commissioners of Police in the States and the Federal Capital Territory to enhance surveillance throughout the nation.

He specifically highlighted the importance of focusing on the North Central, North East, and North West regions in light of recent developments in the Middle East due to the ongoing global conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Disu communicated this message through spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, who stated that the commissioners should bolster surveillance and intelligence efforts by working closely with traditional and religious leaders.

Daily Trust reported that this order came shortly after members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), commonly referred to as Shiites, held a peaceful protest to honor the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In his response, Disu instructed senior police officials to increase visibility policing around places of worship and public areas, and to promptly address any attempts by individuals or groups to take advantage of global events to incite unrest or sectarian conflict.

Hundeyin remarked, "The Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Olatunji Disu, reassures all Nigerians of the Nigeria Police Force's unwavering dedication to safeguarding lives, property, and national peace in light of the evolving geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their potential global repercussions.

While Nigeria remains stable and its internal security is firmly under control, the Force has implemented enhanced proactive, intelligence-led policing strategies across the nation.

The Ag. IGP has directed all Commissioners of Police in the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory, with a particular focus on the North West, North East, and North Central zones, to increase surveillance and intelligence gathering, strengthen collaboration with traditional and religious leaders, enhance visibility policing around places of worship and public spaces, and swiftly respond to any attempts by individuals or groups to exploit global developments to incite unrest or sectarian tension.

The Nigeria Police Force emphasizes that Nigeria will not serve as a battleground for foreign conflicts.

Any attempt to import external ideological or religious tensions into the country will be met with the full force of the law.

IGP Disu calls on community leaders nationwide to continue promoting peace and urges citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

The Nigeria Police Force is resolute, prepared, and fully committed to ensuring the safety of every Nigerian and maintaining national security at all times.
