Lagos Approves New Okada Union, MOUN

In a bid to regulate the activities of commercial motorcycle operators, popularly known as okada, in Lagos State, the state government has approved and granted an operational licence to a new union, the Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN).

Speaking on Thursday at a brief ceremony, the General Secretary of MOUN, who also serves as Chairman of the union’s Caretaker Committee in Lagos State, Comrade Ade Ikuesan, pledged that the new union, as a registered trade body, would comply with all existing laws to ensure smooth and lawful operations.

He added that the union is committed to bringing all its members into the tax net, thereby contributing to the state’s revenue base.

Ikuesan also assured the state government of the union’s readiness to cooperate fully in all areas to promote order, safety, and accountability within the sector.

He further stated that the union would prioritise the welfare of its members, while urging them to strictly comply with the rules and regulations of the state, particularly in areas where okada operations have been banned, and to adhere to safety guidelines and road signs.
