NSCDC REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO PROFESSIONALISM, SYNERGY, AND RULE OF LAW IN ELECTION SECURITY

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, has reaffirmed the Corps’ unwavering commitment to professionalism and strict adherence to the rule of law in the conduct of elections across Nigeria.

He made this known while delivering a goodwill message at the 2nd Annual Lecture of the Alumni Association of the National Institute for Security Studies, themed “Credible Elections and National Security in Nigeria,” held at the NAF Conference Centre.

Professor Audi noted that the NSCDC remains a dependable pillar in election security, playing a vital supportive role alongside other security agencies. He emphasized that effective synergy and coordination among agencies are essential to preventing electoral violence, strengthening intelligence sharing, and ensuring a peaceful atmosphere before, during, and after elections.
Speaking further, he highlighted the critical role of the Nigerian people in the success of any electoral process. According to him, credible elections are not achieved by security agencies alone but require active citizen participation. He urged Nigerians to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and cooperative, stressing that public support is key to maintaining order and safeguarding the integrity of the process.

The Commandant General also underscored the importance of the Judiciary in sustaining electoral credibility, noting that trust in legal institutions helps reinforce fairness, accountability, and confidence in democratic outcomes.

He added that credible elections are the foundation of democratic stability, national unity, and sustainable development. A secure and transparent electoral process, he said, strengthens governance and deepens public trust in democratic institutions.

The event was chaired by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, while the lecture was delivered by former Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barrister Mike Igini. The Alumni Association, led by Barrister Mike Ejiofor, brought together participants from the security sector, the Judiciary, academia, and other critical stakeholders, providing a platform for meaningful dialogue on strengthening electoral integrity and national security.

The NSCDC reiterates its readiness to continue working closely with sister agencies, and the general public to safeguard lives and critical national assets, while ensuring the successful conduct of free, fair, and credible elections across the country.
