The lawmaker representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency-1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode, has been appointed as a Security Ambassador by Societal Concern, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to the welfare and well-being of security personnel across Nigeria.
The organisation, which focuses on supporting officers serving in various security formations, works with personnel from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, as well as other paramilitary agencies. Its mission also extends to providing support and relief for security officers who have been injured in the line of duty and for the families of those who lost their lives while serving the nation.
The ambassadorial decoration and presentation of the award took place at Lagos State House of Assembly, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos
Speaking during the ceremony, Ambassador Oluwayomi Oluwapelumi, a representative of the organisation, commended Hon. Ogundipe for his remarkable contributions to security advocacy and legislative support since assuming office as the Chairman of the House Committee on Information Strategy and Security in the Lagos State Assembly.
According to him, the lawmaker has consistently demonstrated commitment to improving the operational environment and welfare of security personnel through his legislative engagements.
He highlighted that Hon. Ogundipe’s motions, debates, and interventions on security-related matters, as well as the manner in which he has handled several petitions brought before the House, have helped to reduce the risks and exposure faced by security personnel while carrying out their duties.
“His contributions on the floor of the House and his proactive engagement on security matters have made significant impact. His efforts have helped to bring attention to the challenges faced by officers and have strengthened support for their welfare,” Oluwapelumi said.
Responding after receiving the honour, Hon. Ogundipe expressed appreciation to the organisation for recognising his modest contributions to the security sector.
He described the mission of Societal Concern as noble and commendable, particularly for its dedication to supporting the welfare of officers who risk their lives daily in service to the nation.
The lawmaker noted that the organisation’s commitment to providing assistance to injured officers and to the families of those who died in active service deserves encouragement and wider support from society.
“I am impressed and deeply encouraged by the unique role your organisation is playing in championing the welfare of security officers across the country. Putting smiles on the faces of injured officers and the families of fallen heroes is a noble cause that deserves recognition,” he said.
Hon. Ogundipe further assured the group of his continuous support in his capacity as Chairman of the House Committee on Information Strategy and Security.
“I gladly accept this ambassadorial role. I give kudos to your organisation for this laudable initiative and I wish you all the best in your continued service to humanity,” he added.
The appointment is expected to further strengthen collaboration between policymakers and civil society organisations working towards improving the welfare and operational effectiveness of Nigeria’s security personnel.
