Our Elderly Must Not Be Neglected - Commissioner.

Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, has reiterated the commitment of the State Government towards the elderly, stressing that they must not be neglected in the scheme of things.

He stated this at an event organized by the Ministry to mark 'International Day of the Elderly" at Old Peoples'  Home,Yaba today.

Mr Ogunlende noted that our elderly had contributed tremendously to building the nation while they were much younger in various sectors they worked as a result of which the nation got to the level it is today, adding that they deserve fair treatment in return for their services in the past.
The Permanent Secretary,Pharm(Mrs) Toyin Oke-osanyintolu assured the elderly that the State Government through the Ministry would continue to implement policies and programs that would give them a sense of belonging so long as they reside in Lagos State.
Her words:"this program is to let our elderly know that they are very important to us.It aligns with the Social Inclusion policy of Mr Governor of leaving no one behind irrespective of the gender,age, class or tribe.Mr Governor wants everyone to feel the impact of good governance.It is an administration that cares for all and sundry.We will continue to celebrate our elderly because they laid the foundation on which we are building.It will be a disservice for us to neglect them simply because they have become senior citizens."

The Guest Speaker, Mrs Joan Kpandei, talked to the elderly on what they need to do and what they must avoid in order to enjoy sound health in their old age pointing out that old age sometimes comes with some health challenges.
