APC’s “Oyebanji Will Win” Narrative Won’t Save Him from Oluyede’s Rising Momentum

The Oluyede Media and Strategic Communications Team has strongly criticised the Ekiti State APC over what it described as a premature and misleading claim that Governor Biodun Oyebanji is guaranteed victory in the June 20 governorship election.

Reacting to a recent publication by APC spokesperson, Segun Dele Dipe, which framed Oyebanji’s re-election as “a fact, not fiction,” the opposition team said the statement reflects political arrogance rather than electoral reality.

In a statement signed by its Head, Olanrewaju Adams, the team argued that no political party has the authority to declare victory ahead of an election, stressing that such narratives are aimed at creating a false sense of inevitability among voters.

“The attempt to present a projected outcome as settled fact is not only misleading but also an insult to the democratic sensibilities of Ekiti people,” the statement read. “Elections are not won in media spaces, they are decided by the people at the ballot box.”

The group noted that while the ruling party continues to rely on incumbency advantage and past electoral victories, the political landscape in the state is far from static. According to the statement, voter expectations have evolved, and citizens are increasingly focused on the real impact of governance on their daily lives.

“It is no longer enough to recycle statistics or highlight selective achievements. Ekiti people are asking deeper questions about their economic realities, opportunities, and the sincerity of leadership,” Adams said.

The team further asserted that a growing wave of political momentum is building in favour of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Dr. Oluwole Oluyede, whom it described as a credible and people-oriented alternative.

“There is a clear shift across communities in Ekiti. From grassroots engagements to broader political conversations, the name of Dr. Oluwole Oluyede continues to resonate as a symbol of competence, fresh thinking, and purposeful leadership,” the statement added.

It also accused the APC of attempting to suppress dissenting opinions by dismissing alternative views as “fiction,” warning that such an approach undermines democratic engagement and healthy political competition.

“Democracy thrives on contestation, not coronation. Ekiti State is not a territory where outcomes can be predetermined by political spokespersons. The electorate remains the ultimate authority,” the statement emphasised.

Reaffirming confidence in the electoral process, the Oluyede team maintained that the outcome of the June 20 election would reflect the genuine will of the people rather than media narratives or partisan projections.

“As the election approaches, it is becoming increasingly clear that no amount of propaganda can overshadow the rising momentum for change. Ekiti people will make their choice based on reality, not rehearsed political claims,” the statement concluded.
