The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM received Engr. Bello Lawal, National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), along with a delegation of senior executives of the association at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The delegation was made up of Hon. Alabi Kolade, former National President; Hon. Odunayo Ategbero, ALGON BOT Chairman; Senator Uzamere Igbeke, Financial and Lead Consultant; Hon. Dr. Okafor Odinaka Cyril, BOT ALGON South East; Hon. Shehu Marshal, Chief of Staff ALGON; Barr. (Mrs.) Evan Enekwe, Acting Director General; Dr. Ben Nkechika, Consultant on Health ALGON; Donald Ayibiowu Esq, Special Adviser on Legislative Matters; and Obiora Orji, Head of Media ALGON.
In the course of the meeting, ALGON National President, Engr. Bello Lawal reaffirmed the association’s readiness to stand as a partner to the police. He congratulated the IGP on his appointment, commended him for his leadership, and emphasized ALGON’s willingness to support police operations across local government areas. The executives also appealed for the continued support of the Nigeria Police Force for ALGON’s initiatives, while highlighting the association’s ongoing collaboration with federal and state governments to drive policies nationwide.
In his response, the IGP expressed appreciation for ALGON’s consistent support and acknowledged the association’s contributions to improving police efficiency in the past. He noted the challenges faced by officers who work tirelessly with limited resources and praised ALGON’s efforts to strengthen policing. The IGP pledged to build on existing successes and appealed to members of the public to respect police officers on duty, while urging officers themselves to remain civil in their interactions with citizens.
IGP Disu thereafter reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force and ensuring that officers are better equipped to serve the nation. This significant visit marks a renewed partnership between ALGON and the Nigeria Police Force, aimed at improving the security architecture across Nigeria’s local government areas.
