The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on Monday advanced the reform of police education with plans to establish a new police academy campus in Ogun State and upgrade and accredit 42 police colleges nationwide.
At a high-level meeting with the Federal Ministry of Education, stakeholders agreed to collaborate with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the National Universities Commission (NUC) to deliver modern facilities, secure sustainable funding, and meet accreditation standards across police training institutions.
The proposed Ogun State academy is expected to commence operations in the 2026 academic session.
Police authorities say the reforms will combine academic rigour with practical and tactical training to produce more professional, service-oriented officers capable of addressing contemporary security challenges and restoring public confidence.
