TRAGIC LONE CRASH CLAIMS DRIVER'S LIFE AS LASTMA, POLICE UNDERTAKE SWIFT RECOVERY OPERATION ON OSHODI-APAPA EXPRESSWAY.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in close collaboration with Officers of the Nigeria Police, successfully executed a prompt rescue and recovery operation following a fatal lone vehicular accident that occurred in the early hours of today along the ever-busy Oshodi-Apapa Expressway at Charity Bus Stop, inward Iyana Isolo, Lagos.

Preliminary findings indicate that the Honda Pilot Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) involved in the incident suddenly lost control, causing it to overturn multiple times before coming to a devastating halt. The sheer magnitude of the impact led to the instantaneous death of the driver, whose body became trapped within the severely mangled remains of the vehicle.
LASTMA personnel, who were actively engaged in traffic monitoring and management duties within the Iyana Isolo axis at the time of the incident, responded expeditiously to the emergency. Demonstrating exceptional bravery, professionalism and operational dexterity, the Officers, working in concert with personnel from the Mosafejo Police Division, painstakingly extricated the deceased from the wreckage while simultaneously maintaining effective traffic control and preventing secondary collisions along the corridor.

Upon the successful conclusion of the rescue and recovery exercise, officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) evacuated the remains of the deceased to a public mortuary in accordance with extant statutory and public health protocols.

Furthermore, the wrecked Honda Pilot SUV was formally transferred to Officers of the Mosafejo Police Division, who have immediately commenced a comprehensive investigation to ascertain both the immediate and remote causes of the unfortunate accident.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki expressed profound sorrow over the tragic loss of life and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family during this period of immense grief.

He further admonished motorists across Lagos State to exercise the utmost vigilance and responsibility while behind the wheel, maintain lawful speed limits and adhere strictly to all traffic regulations and road safety protocols, particularly during late-night and early-morning journeys when visibility, alertness and reaction times may be considerably impaired.

According to Bakare-Oki:
"Motorists are strongly urged to eschew reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, excessive speeding and every form of traffic infraction capable of precipitating avoidable tragedies on our roads. The sanctity and preservation of human life must remain paramount in the conduct of every road user. No journey is so urgent as to justify compromising safety."
