.... Charges Security Agencies to Beam Searchlight on Interests Capable of Undermining The Integrity of the Process for Political Capital
A civil society organization, the Democracy and Good Governance Watch Initiative (DGGWI) has charged the good people of Ekiti State to come out enmasee to cast their franchise in a peaceful and orderly manner for the candidate of their choice in the Saturday 20th June 2026 Ekiti State gubernatorial election across the 16 Local government councils areas of the State.
In a press statement e-signed by the executive directors of the organization namely Nelson Ekujumi, Ajayi Popoola and Gbenga Soloki, the organization stated that, "Having observed the preparations for the elections in the last couple of weeks involving all the stakeholders, we are not in doubt about the ability of INEC to conduct a free, fair and credible election come Saturday 20th June 2026 in Ekiti State".
Accordingly, the group charged INEC to "Ensure that it's logistics and material arrangement for an excellent exercise in the conduct of the 2026 Ekiti State gubernatorial election, manifest with its timely arrival of officials to the polling stations and knowledgeable deployment of equipments to facilitate the swiftness of the electorate exercising their franchise in an orderly manner devoid of delay or waste of time".
The group charged the voters to come out enmasee to vote for the candidate of their choice in the prevailing atmosphere devoid of fear, intimidation and violence as observed before, during the campaigns and the election proper.
The electorate were equally charged to refuse to be induced to cast their vote on election day, which is about 4 years of the life of the state and generations unborn.
The security agencies were implored to remain impartial and professional in the discharge of their constitutional functions to guarantee the sanctity of the ballot which is a critical tenet of democracy.
Political party agents were also called upon to put the interest of the Ekiti people upper most in the discharge of their electoral duties and refuse to be used as agents of destabilization during the election and after
The organization charged election observers and the media to remain neutral and professional in their reportage and observation of the election and refrain from conducting themselves in a manner that will jeopardize the integrity of the process.
The Democracy and Good Governance Watch Initiative also used the occasion of the press release to call on the security agencies to beam their searchlight for arrest and prosecution, on anti democratic elements who churn out fake news, stories, reports and attempt to taint the integrity of the election to undermine the process.
The organization wished the good people of Ekiti State, a peaceful, transparent and credible election in which the outcome will reflect the wishes of the people as expressed at the polls.
