The Lagos State  Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, in collaboration with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), has organised a three-day Sensitisation Programme for proprietors, administrators, and teachers of private primary, junior, and senior secondary schools on the Nigeria Learning Passport, holding between June 17-19, 2026.

The programme is aimed at enhancing awareness and promoting the effective utilisation of the platform as a tool for improving access to quality education and digital learning opportunities for learners.

The Nigeria Learning Passport sensitisation, taking place at the Education Resource Centre, Ojodu, is designed to demonstrate that no one needs to be left behind, provided it is used judiciously and effectively. It offers learners and educators the opportunity to access quality educational resources anytime and anywhere.

In his keynote address, the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun emphasised the importance of leveraging technology to improve learning outcomes and ensure inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all children.

He commended UNICEF and the Nigeria Learning Passport team for their continued support in advancing digital education across the State and encouraged school owners and administrators to embrace the platform as a valuable resource for teaching and learning.

The Commissioner noted that the Nigeria Learning Passport provides learners with access to curriculum-aligned educational content, enabling them to learn anytime and anywhere. He further stressed the need for schools to integrate digital learning solutions into their educational processes to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global educational landscape. His words: “Lagos State, which officially launched the platform in September 2022, has emerged as the leading State in the Country in its implementation”.

Delivering a goodwill message, the Chairman of Parents' Forum, Mr. Ganiyu Olatunbosun Akanbi expressed appreciation to UNICEF and all stakeholders for their commitment to educational development. He highlighted the significance of the orientation and sensitisation programme in building the capacity of school leaders and teachers to effectively deploy the Nigeria Learning Passport platform in their schools.

He implored parents to be involved in the educational development of their children if they want results. "The initiative aligns with the government's commitment to expanding access to quality education and strengthening digital literacy among learners", he added, urging participants to take full advantage of the training sessions and become ambassadors of the programme within their respective schools and the different parents' forums.

The programme featured presentations, practical demonstrations, and interactive sessions designed to familiarise participants with the features, benefits, and operational procedures of the Nigeria Learning Passport platform. Monitoring activities were also conducted to assess implementation progress and identify areas requiring further support.

Participants expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education, UNICEF, and the Nigeria Learning Passport team for organising the programme and pledged their commitment to ensuring the successful adoption and utilisation of the platform in their schools.
