Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has honoured outstanding teachers, principals, and education administrators for their exceptional commitment, dedication, and exemplary service, reaffirming his administration's unwavering commitment to rewarding excellence and promoting quality education across the state.
The recognition ceremony, organised by the Borno State Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, brought together education stakeholders, teachers, principals, and government officials to celebrate individuals whose outstanding contributions have significantly strengthened the state's education sector.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, said the initiative was aimed at encouraging hard work, professionalism, integrity, and excellence among educators and public servants.
He noted that Governor Zulum's administration remains committed to recognising and rewarding individuals who distinguish themselves through innovation, honesty, dedication, and impactful service, stressing that every public servant should strive to build a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire others.
Among those honoured was Mala Ayuba Daniel, Principal of Government Day Secondary School, Fikayel, who was recognised for personally transforming and maintaining his school's environment with the support of his family. In appreciation of his remarkable commitment, Governor Zulum presented him with a government vehicle.
Also honoured was Hadiza Garba for her exceptional leadership and dedication while serving at Government Secondary School Shafa and later Bilingual Secondary School, Biu. She was equally rewarded with a government vehicle in recognition of her outstanding performance.
Similarly, Amina Modu Mafa received recognition for revitalising Government Day Secondary School, Mafa, before successfully leading Government Girls Secondary School Yerwa and subsequently the Bilingual Secondary School. Her exemplary leadership and dedication also earned her a government vehicle.
Other distinguished education officers recognised during the ceremony included Mohammed Idris, Fatima Askira, Mr. Gabriel Adi, Mr. Matthew, Hadiza Bukhari Ali of Al-Ansar Community School, Mallam Ibrahim, Alhaji Bukar, Dr. Abba Galtimari, and Baba Modu.
Particular attention was given to Baba Modu, whose extraordinary courage and selfless actions during a school emergency earned him a house, financial rewards, and national recognition. The Commissioner described his bravery as a shining example of patriotism and dedication to public service, noting that Governor Zulum rewarded him with a house and financial support, while Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, also provided additional financial assistance in recognition of his heroic service.
Speaking on behalf of teachers, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Borno State Wing, commended Governor Zulum and the Ministry of Education for their remarkable reforms in the education sector and for consistently motivating teachers through recognition and support.
Similarly, the Chairman of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Borno State Chapter, applauded the government for institutionalising a culture of rewarding excellence, assuring that principals across the state would continue to strengthen school administration and improve academic standards.
Responding on behalf of the award recipients, Mala Ayuba Daniel expressed profound appreciation to Governor Zulum and the Ministry of Education for the honour, describing the recognition as a great source of motivation to remain committed to excellence and selfless service. He urged fellow educators to continue working diligently towards improving the standard of education in Borno State.
The ceremony concluded with a renewed commitment by teachers, principals, and education administrators to support the ongoing transformation of the education sector.
