His Excellency, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to food security and economic recovery by supporting 25,000 farmers from host communities and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Monguno Local Government Area with agrochemicals and knapsack sprayers to boost cowpea production.
The intervention is aimed at increasing agricultural productivity, improving household incomes, strengthening food security, and empowering communities affected by the insurgency to rebuild their livelihoods through farming.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony, the Honourable Member House of Representatives Representing Marte, Monguno and Nganzai Federal Constituency, Rt Hon Engr Bukar Talba FNSE, Commended Governor Zulum for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of farmers and vulnerable communities. He described the intervention as a timely initiative that will enhance agricultural production, reduce poverty, and improve the living conditions of thousands of families across the constituency, he also assured the beneficiaries of his continued support for programmes that promote agricultural development and community resilience.
The Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs Alhaji Sugun Mai Mele praised Governor Zulum's visionary leadership, noting that the agricultural support package reflects the government's determination to restore livelihoods, promote self-reliance, and accelerate post-conflict recovery across Borno State. He urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the inputs to maximize productivity Hand urged residents of Monguno to remain vigilant in the interest of peace and security.
He advised community members not to collaborate with individuals seeking to undermine the peace and stability of the area, stressing that security is a shared responsibility. He called on everyone to promptly report any suspicious activities to the appropriate security agencies and community leaders, emphasizing that sustained peace is essential for agricultural development, economic growth, and the successful return of normal life in Monguno.
The Chairman of Monguno Local Government Hon. Liman Alhaji Kalla expressed appreciation to His Excellency for extending the intervention of the people of Monguno. He noted that the support would significantly improve cowpea production, create more economic opportunities for farming households, and strengthen peaceful coexistence between host communities and IDPs. He also assured that the distribution process would be transparent and reach the intended beneficiaries.
The people of Monguno expressed their gratitude to Governor Zulum for this life-changing intervention, describing it as another demonstration of his dedication to rebuilding communities and ensuring sustainable agricultural development throughout Borno State.
The Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Engr. Bawu Baba Musami, was represented at the event by the Senior Adviser to His Excellency on Agriculture, Alhaji Mohammed Nur. In his remarks, he reaffirmed the Borno State Government's commitment to supporting farmers with quality agricultural inputs and urged beneficiaries to use the agrochemicals and knapsack sprayers strictly for the intended purpose of increasing cowpea production.
Also Speaking at the Distribution Ceremony the Borno State Fadama Project coordinator, Alhaji Maina Mustapha Arjinoma, emphasized the importance of proper handling and safe application of agrochemicals. He advised farmers to follow extension recommendations, wear protective clothing when spraying, and work together through farmer groups to improve productivity, strengthen food security, and enhance sustainable livelihoods.
Also speaking, Agricultural Transformation Committee (AgTC) member, Modu Kawu Shettima Dalatu, urged the beneficiaries to avoid selling the distributed inputs. He encouraged them to make the best use of the support provided by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, noting that the intervention is intended to improve agricultural production, increase family incomes, and contribute to the economic recovery of host communities and internally displaced persons in Monguno Local Government Area.
