The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kebbi Area Command, on Thursday, 27 August 2026, hosted a delegation from the Nigerien Customs (Douanes du Niger) at the Command Headquarters to deliberate on emerging issues affecting trade along the Kamba–Tungan Gyado border corridor.
The engagement was aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, facilitating legitimate cross-border trade, enhancing revenue generation, and bringing economic relief to communities on both sides of the border.
The meeting was attended by the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Kebbi Area Command, Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim; Comptroller, Douanes du Dosso, Niger Republic, Abdoulaye Vincent; Chairman, Dendi Ganda and Sarkin Shikon Kamba, Mamuda Zarumai; Secretary-General, SNAT Gaya, Abubakar Inusa; and other relevant stakeholders.
Speaking during the engagement, the Comptroller, Douanes du Dosso, Abdoulaye Vincent, expressed appreciation to the CAC for hosting the Nigerien delegation and called for stronger collaboration between the Customs administrations of Nigeria and Niger, particularly in facilitating legitimate trade through the Kamba corridor.
He noted that insecurity along the Burkina Faso and Togo routes, coupled with the prevailing diplomatic situation with the Benin Republic, had significantly disrupted trade flows. He therefore appealed for increased legitimate exports through the Kamba corridor, stressing that such a development would contribute to revenue generation while easing economic hardship among communities along the corridor and beyond.
In his response, the CAC, Kebbi Area Command, Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim, welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Nigerien Customs Administration and promoting legitimate cross-border trade.
The CAC pledged to sensitise traders and other stakeholders on relevant Customs procedures and encouraged greater utilisation of the Kamba corridor for legitimate commercial activities. He emphasised that increased trade through the corridor would not only enhance revenue generation but also create employment opportunities and improve the livelihoods of border communities.
Comptroller Ibrahim further disclosed plans to visit the Nigerien Customs Command in Dosso, Niger Republic, as part of efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation, strengthen institutional relations, and explore further opportunities for trade facilitation along the corridor.
The engagement concluded with remarks from the Sarkin Shikon Kamba, Mamuda Zarumai, who expressed appreciation to the CAC for providing an enabling environment for stakeholders to conduct legitimate business. He commended the Customs Area Controller for demonstrating concern for the welfare and economic wellbeing of the people of Kamba and offered prayers for the success of the collaboration between the two Customs administrations.
The Kebbi Area Command remains committed to working closely with relevant stakeholders and its Nigerien counterparts to promote lawful trade, enhance revenue generation, and support economic development and improved livelihoods across border communities.
