The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) and the Association of Lawyers with Disabilities have expressed their readiness to collaborate on initiatives aimed at strengthening advocacy, accessibility and the rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Lagos State.
The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the Association, led by its President, Tosan Ene, Esq., to the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, at the Agency recently.
Speaking during the visit, the President said the Association was at LASODA to explore areas of partnership that would contribute to advancing the rights and inclusion of persons with Disabilities in the state.
He noted that the proposed collaboration would particularly focus on advocacy and accessibility, leveraging the expertise of both organisations to address barriers affecting the effective participation of persons with Disabilities in society.
Responding, the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal took the delegation through some of the Agency's activities and initiatives in the areas of advocacy and accessibility. She highlighted its collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including the Lagos State Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA), on initiatives towards the provision of special number plates for Persons with Disabilities and their caregivers to facilitate easier identification and access.
Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal also highlighted LASODA's accessibility checklists, awareness programmes, and other initiatives designed to identify and address barriers to accessibility and promote greater inclusion of persons with Disabilities across the State.
She assured the delegation of LASODA's willingness to collaborate with the Association, stressing that the Agency remained open to partnerships that would advance disability inclusion and promote the rights, dignity, and welfare of Persons with Disabilities.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to explore areas of collaboration between LASODA and the Association. The Association also assured the agency that it would submit a formal proposal outlining specific areas of partnership for consideration and further action.
Also present at the meeting were some members of the Association, including Gbelupe Joseph, Esq.; Lukman Salami, Esq.; Mariah Kazeem, Esq.; and Enough Agofure, Esq., as well as the Head of the Legal Department, LASODA, Babatunde Safiu, Esq.
