The Mining Marshals have escalated their operational campaign against illegal mining activities in Nasarawa State, executing a coordinated enforcement mission aimed at disrupting unlawful mineral extraction, strengthening regulatory compliance, and securing the integrity of Nigeria's mining ecosystem.
The operation, triggered by actionable intelligence and complaints of unauthorized mining activities, forms part of a broader operational framework designed to deny illegal operators access to mineral assets while ensuring that legitimate title holders remain within their legally approved mining coordinates. The mission reinforces the FGs commitment to resource protection, operational accountability, and the preservation of strategic national assets.
As a specialized enforcement unit established to combat illegal mining and restore operational discipline across the solid minerals sector, the Mining Marshals deployed a joint-task-force architecture involving officials of the Mins of Solid Minerals Development, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, and community-based security structures.
The operation represents a strategic effort to neutralize threats posed by illegal mining networks whose activities undermine national revenue generation, environmental security, community stability, and investor confidence. Through integrated field operations and enhanced inter-agency collaboration, authorities are improving situational awareness, strengthening intelligence-led enforcement, and expanding the capacity to identify, disrupt, and dismantle illicit mining operations.
Commander of the Mining Marshals, Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC) Attah John Onoja, who supervised the exercise, described the deployment as part of an ongoing nationwide operational drive to entrench compliance, enforce mining regulations, and establish a culture of lawful resource extraction across mining communities.
According to him, the mission was executed in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and derives its legal mandate from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Act 2007 (as amended). He reaffirmed the commitment of the Mining Marshals to sustained enforcement actions aimed at protecting Nigeria's mineral assets and advancing the strategic vision of the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR.
The sustained operational footprint of the Mining Marshals is increasingly being recognized as a force multiplier in the FGs drive to formalize the mining sector, protect legitimate investments, secure mining corridors, and create an enabling environment for responsible mineral development.
With enforcement operations expanding across key mining locations nationwide, the strategic objective remains clear: to establish operational control over Nigeria's mineral resources, eliminate illegal exploitation networks, and strengthen a compliance-driven mining regime capable of supporting long-term economic growth, resource security, and investor confidence.
