Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has charged Permanent Secretaries across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to fast-track project delivery, consolidate the gains of his administration, complete ongoing projects and strengthen institutions capable of sustaining the achievements beyond the present administration.
Sanwo-Olu gave the charge on Wednesday, 2nd September, 2026, at the opening ceremony of the Strategic Project Leadership Workshop organised by the Parastatals Implementation Monitoring Unit (PIMU) for Permanent Secretaries at Isimi- Lagos, Epe.
The Governor, who was represented by the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, said the workshop came at a critical stage of the administration’s journey towards a Greater Lagos, stressing that the focus should now shift from initiating projects to completing ongoing ones and converting investments into tangible outcomes.
Citing major investments such as Phase 2 of the Blue Line from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, he urged the Permanent Secretaries to ensure that projects deliver meaningful benefits to Lagosians.
The Governor described Permanent Secretaries as institutional leaders, custodians of continuity and critical drivers of execution, noting that while political administrations have defined tenures, the Public Service provides the continuity required to preserve institutional knowledge, sustain effective policies and ensure that progress is not lost during transitions.
He urged them to strengthen collaboration across MDAs, improve the use of data and collectively tackle challenges, stressing that the interconnected nature of Lagos requires Government Agencies to work together rather than operate in isolation.
Sanwo-Olu cautioned that government performance should not be measured by the number of meetings held, memos written, approvals processed or projects commenced, but by the tangible impact of Government activities on the lives of Lagosians.
He challenged the Permanent Secretaries to use the workshop to reflect, exchange ideas and develop practical strategies for faster execution, stronger collaboration and more resilient institutions.
Sanwo-Olu also commended the PIMU team, under the leadership of the Executive Assistant on Project Implementation and Monitoring, Mr. Olusegun Sanwo-Olu, for promoting project management best practices across the State, urging the team to remain committed to institutionalising a culture of disciplined project delivery.
He directed participants to take the outcomes of the workshop back to their respective MDAs and translate them into concrete actions, stressing that the administration’s responsibility in its final stretch was not only to finish well but to leave behind stronger institutions capable of sustaining the progress achieved, before formally declaring the workshop open.
