National Youth Games: Lagos Targets More Gold Medals In Various Events

 


The penultimate day of competition guaranteed podium finishes for Team Lagos as the state is heading into the finals of various events.


Lagos claimed more medals on Tuesday, winning gold in female basketball following a hard fought victory over hosts, Delta in the final. Team Lagos also secured gold and silver in the squash event while the girls hockey team defeated their counterparts from Osun State to reach the final. Isiaka Ibrahim was another sensational from the Team Lagos shattering another record in cycling. Ibrahim won a gold medal in the point race event.


The duo of Yusuf Roqbat and Arowofela Amidah also won a bronze medal in dart female doubles to increase Lagos medals rush on the log. It was another successful outing for Irebami lsaac and Yusuf Roqbat after cruising to the Semi-finals in the mixed doubles effortlessly.


In badminton, Samantha Omonehin Oluwatunmishe made her way to the quarter-finals in the girl’s Singles defeating her opponent from Ogun State, Bello Naomi 2-1(22-20,23-21,21-11).


Team Lagos is poised to claim more gold medals in boxing after four boxers reached the finals in various weight classes, fighting their ways to podium finishes in both boys and girls categories.


The girls football team will battle for gold medal when they face Team Bayelsa in today’s final at the St. Patrick’s College in Asaba. The girls hockey team will also contest the final of the event against their counterparts from Kaduna State.


The 8th National Youth Games featuring 35 States and the FCT will climax with the closing ceremony on Thursday, September 19.
