Ayegunle Ekiti Community Stands United on Aderiye s Dethronement

The Aiyegunle Ekiti Leaders of Thought Forum Worldwide has expressed unwavering resolve on the dethronement of Oba Folorunsho Aderiye, the Alayegunle of Ayegunle Ekiti

Mr. Idowu Julius, the forum's spokesman, speaking on behalf of all the elites, said the decision was a culmination of the monarch's reign of terror, abuse of power, and gross human rights violations and that there is no going back

According to Julius, the community had been living in fear under Aderiye's rule, with many High Chiefs and youths being harassed, arrested, and detained for no just cause.

"The people of Ayegunle Ekiti have been subjected to unimaginable suffering and human rights abuses under Aderiye's rule," Julius said, nothing that: "the kingmakers' decision to dethrone him is a welcome development and a testament to the community's resolve to stand up against tyranny and oppression."

The forum noted that Aderiye's actions were in contravention of the traditional norms and values of the community, and that his dethronement was a necessary measure to restore peace and tranquility to the community.

"We commend the kingmakers for their bravery and wisdom in taking this decision," Julius said, buttress ING fhat: "we stand united behind them and will support them in their efforts to ensure a smooth transition and a new era of peace and prosperity for Ayegunle Ekiti."

The forum also praised the Ekiti State Government for its intervention in the matter, particularly the Deputy Governor, Chief Monisade Afuye, who had appealed to the warring factions to shelve their swords and embrace peace.

"We urge the government to continue to support the kingmakers and the community in this transition period," Julius said.

The decision to dethrone Aderiye was taken after a thorough investigation and consideration of the allegations against him.

The kingmakers, comprising High Chief Ilesanmi Olugola, the Eesa of Ayegunle Ekiti and head of the kingmaker, High Chief Pius Ogunlusi, Eesinkin of Ayegunle Ekiti, High Chief Ayodele Omoniyi, the Odofin of Ayegunle Ekiti, High Chief Tubosun Arowolo, the Sajuku of Ayegunle Ekiti, and Chief Ojo Omokanju, the Eesaya of Ayegunle Ekiti, jointly stamped out the 27-year-old rule of Aderiye and declared the seat vacant.

The action of the kingmakers is supported by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which recognizes the importance of traditional institutions in the country's governance structure.

Section 277 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) defines a traditional ruler as "a person who hails from a particular community and has been recognised as a traditional ruler in that community by virtue of his ancestry, descent, custom or culture."

Furthermore, the kingmakers' decision to dethrone Aderiye is also in line with the Ekiti State Traditional Rulers Law, which empowers traditional rulers to perform certain functions and duties in their respective communities.

The law also provides for the dethronement of traditional rulers who engage in misconduct or abuse of power.

The Aiyegunle Ekiti Leaders of Thought Forum Worldwide has pledged to support the kingmakers and the community in this transition period, and to work towards a new era of peace and prosperity for Ayegunle Ekiti.
