The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) has unveiled an unprecedented "Detty December Programme Timeline," a curated calendar designed to project a fresh, powerful, and unparalleled image of Lagos to the local and global community, particularly to visiting foreigners and the Nigerian diaspora.
This schedule, which features an array of events, reflects the visionary commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's administration to transform the festive period into a world-class spectacle of sport and entertainment.
By promoting an enabling environment and leveraging its state-of-the-art infrastructure, such as the Rowe Park Olympic-sized swimming pool, the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, among others, the state government is strategically positioning Lagos as Africa's definitive hub for excellence.
The timeline showcases a vibrant mix of LSSC-endorsed programmes and major events in the state hosted in its facilities, ranging from the adrenaline-pumping Lagos Grand Horse Race and the Detty December Marathon at Eko Atlantic City to high-profile boxing fixtures like the Chaos in the Ring event at the iconic Eko Atlantic City.
Speaking on the initiative, the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, stated: "Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has given us a clear mandate to transform Lagos into the global standard-bearer for ‘sportainment’ in Africa, and these Detty December programmes endorsed by LSSC or hosted in our facilities are our emphatic response to that charge. We are orchestrating a paradigm shift in how the world perceives Lagos and Nigeria. Every international visitor, every diaspora returnee, every tourist who experiences the events in our world-class facilities, our impeccable organisation skills, and our warm hospitality becomes an ambassador for the Lagos story."
