Operatives of the LAWMA Waste Investigation, Surveillance and Enforcement Team have apprehended several cart pushers for illegally collecting and dumping waste at unauthorized locations along Iwaya Road and Onike Road in Lagos Mainland Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
The enforcement operation was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to curb indiscriminate waste disposal and protect the state's cleanliness. According to the agency, the suspects were found engaging in unauthorized waste collection and disposing of refuse at undesignated locations, an act that defaces the environment and violates Lagos State environmental sanitation regulations.
The operation underscores the commitment of the Lagos State Government and the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to maintaining a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Lagos. Residents and businesses have also been urged to patronize only LAWMA-approved PSP operators for waste collection and to report illegal waste disposal activities to the appropriate authorities.
LAWMA reiterated that enforcement activities will continue across the state, warning that individuals and groups involved in illegal waste collection and indiscriminate dumping will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
